Athletic Training Education Excellence Fund
More to come on this growing aspect of our education
program. For now, Mark Kaufman (1986 Alumnus) is taking on a
leadership role in establishing the endowment. Our mission is to
establish a non-profit educational foundation
committed to providing stability to the Athletic Training Education
Program at the University of Iowa and to advance its vision and
strategic planning initiatives. You can contribute to the
fund at any time while we are working on the details. The
account number is 30-522-053 "Athletic Training Education
Excellence Fund." Click on the Fund link and the current
information about the provisions for the fund and background details
will appear. At this site you can pledge funds or see other UI
Foundation Accounts. |

2009 Alumni Reunion in San Antonio
These are the brave souls who invite you to see photos
taken at the 2009 Reunion in San Antonio (June 17-20) at the Blue Star
Brewery,
which was about a mile from the Riverwalk and on a hot day in central
Texas!
Pictured here are about 36 alumni all surrounding John Streif after his
speech to the group. You can link
to the other photos by going to Facebook and accessing our Iowa Athletic
Training Group here. Dan
will upload photos soon (today is 6/30/09) but others who took photos
can upload as well. |
The Flood of 2008
During the week of June 9-13, 2008, the Iowa River began
flooding and on June 12, 2008, roads began to be closed as well as residents
in some sections of the city began to be evacuated. Here is a
photo and a link to the other
photos that we have on the flood. Also, you can
link to a College
site that recounts the recovery effort

On Friday morning at 6:30am June 13,
2008, I
stepped out to the back of Carver-Hawkeye Arena and shot this photo
looking onto the Coralville Strip. To the right you can see signs
for the Vine, Wig & Pen, and the Riley Law Firm. To the middle and
left the soccer field, track and softball fields all flooded.

Class of 1992 Meets for their 15th Reunion
Can you imaging 15 years since graduation.
Well, don't answer that because I know some of us can't because we
haven't reached that landmark yet and others of us can't because it was
a long time ago! Nonetheless, what a great turnout for the Class
of 1992. Here is the group who met at Mark Scharnweber's place in
West Branch.
From
left front to right: Matt Doyle, Sue Wisniewski, Julie Hughes
From left back to right: Troy Kleese, Mark Scharnweber, Mike Shaffer,
Wendy Schuller, Shari Anderson
(maiden names of course) Also in attendance was Kevin Melchert but
missing here. |

Licensing or
Reference
Alumni often need
licensing verification information, a school seal, or verification of
professional schooling. Send all of that stuff to Dan's office at 110
CHA and he will take care of it for you. Some of the time, he can
complete the form and get it notarized but other situations require
Departmental signatures and a school seal. It saves you time and avoids
incorrect information, if you send it to Dan.
Also, if you are
looking for positions that need a reference, we would more than happy to
provide reference, if you think it would be helpful, so do not hesitate
to ask. It gives us a chance to tell others what a great person you are
once again.

|
|
|
The
following
history of athletic training at the University of Iowa was begun in
1989 by a program student, Todd DeMoss. Todd's original investigation
was amplified and edited by Dan Foster before sending a draft to the
alumni. The following text represents the best effort to date to
document historical events important to the University of Iowa Athletic
Training and Sports Medicine Departments.
