  Academics and Accreditation
The University of Iowa offers strong faculty and laboratory/clinical resources within the Integrative Physiology and Orthopaedic Surgery Departments.  These two departments have a legacy of excellence in their academic programs.  Part of that legacy has been initial NATA Approval in 1974 and continuous approval or accreditation, now with CAATE, since that time.  CAATE is the Commission on Accreditation for Athletic Training Education.  You can find out more about CAATE and accreditation for athletic training and the profession of athletic training at the two sites: CAATE and NATA Education Council.

 Resources for Learning
Iowa’s library system is first-rate, the largest in the state of Iowa, and among the largest in the nation.  Hardin Health Sciences Library serves all of the health sciences and medicine with gateways to many on-line databases included Virtual Hospital, whose home is the University of Iowa.

University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics
As one of our finest resources, the UIHC is the largest university-owned teaching hospital in the nation and among the largest in the world.  That means that the very best physicians and faculty are attracted to Iowa and that they are interested and excellent teachers.  All of the clinical supervisory faculty provide mentoring to students in the professional preparation of future athletic trainers.  The sports medicine service is a growing and vibrant service that combines the sports medicine resources on campus available to students: team physicians, team surgeons, team dentists, sports medicine consultants, sport physical therapists, sports rehabilitation researchers, and athletic trainers.

  Honors Opportunities
Iowa has a lot to offer highly talented and ambitious students, including challenging honors courses, one-on-one research projects with faculty members, and the honors designation on your degree.

  Electronic Classrooms
Most Iowa classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art computer equipment to allow instructors and students to use technology in the classroom.  Integrative Physiology and Orthopaedics both provide substantial electronic media for classroom instruction and presentations.

  Computing Facilities
There are 24 computer clusters all over campus that allow you to write papers, check e-mail and search for information at your own convenience.  Integrative Physiology houses one of those clusters.  Each clinical facility has computer access to the internet.

  Wired Residence Halls
Every residence hall room is equipped with a direct, high speed Ethernet connection.  In fact, rooms that house more than one student have more than one connection: we have a one-to-one “port-to-pillow” ratio.

  Big Ten Exposure
Iowa’s 22 varsity teams play more than 220 home games, meets, and matches each year.  If admitted to Athletic Training, not only will you involved with the background scenes involved in intercollegiate athletics, but also will be socialized into the professional culture of traditional and big time college athletic training.

  Sports and Recreation
Iowa’s large recreational facilities and intramural games give you plenty of space to keep in shape or just play.

  The Town
Iowa City is a community of 60,000 with a cosmopolitan mixture of diverse cultures and lively downtown shops and restaurants across the street from campus.

  A Great Career Move
Iowa graduates have an excellent track record in both graduate and professional school admissions as well as in the athletic training job market.  The program and placement offices provide specialized services to help you find that graduate or professional school or that first job and will help you develop the skills that will last you throughout your career.
